About
In 1999 I purchased Top End Seeds, having worked for 6 years on a part-time basis as an employee for the previous owner, collecting and packing seed.
I have 20 years of specialised knowledge of the flora of Northern Australia. I continue to build on my knowledge and understanding of native plants by revisiting areas that have been rehabilitated, and utilising results of environmental surveys. I also maintain regular contact with environmental officers from mining companies across tropical Australia, local nursery people, local and state government workers, contractors and landscapers.
To formalise my knowledge I studied and attained a Graduate Diploma in Tropical Environment Management (CDU 2006). As training and capacity building of local people is becoming an important aspect of any industry, I also obtained a certificate in Vet Trainer & Assessor (Cert IV TAA), which enables me to provide certified training so that I may assist with the development of sustainable employment opportunities.
In any revegetation process my aim is to build a stable plant community made up of a variety of species, which is as close to the local natural composition in variety and density as is feasible. At the same time however it is important to take into consideration any altered environmental conditions.
My team of experienced collectors enjoy their work. They travel long distances, and are efficient at collecting large quantities of high quality seed.
When I'm not working I enjoy hitting a yellow ball with over a net with a racquet or donning my boots (not safety!), and putting a pack on my back to head bush.
